Where actors get stuck

  • You know what the character should feel, but it won't come when you need it.
  • You feel like you are faking some reactions.
  • You watch yourself act instead of living the scene.
  • You are not sure how to practice the right way on your own.

The six pillars give you a way to work on each of these.

Who it is for

For

  • People who have always wanted to act, don't know where to start, and want a real technique, not a taster.
  • Actors, or former actors coming back, who feel they force emotion, act from the head, or fall back on the same habits.
  • People happy to be coached in a small group and to play a scene on camera at the end.
  • People who will give about 2 hours a week to preparation.

Not for

  • Anyone who wants recorded lessons only. The live sessions are the course.
  • Anyone who cannot attend the Sunday sessions live (20:00 to 22:00 Amsterdam time). A replay is a backup for a missed week, not a way to take the course.
  • Anyone looking for audition coaching or career promises.
  • Anyone not comfortable being on camera.

Some acting experience

What you leave with

A scene on camera. In the last session you play a full scene, and you keep the recording.

A method for any scene. You learn to prepare a character from a script without needing a teacher.

A way to practice correctly. Every week, a short lesson and one exercise filmed on your phone, with feedback.

Truth in the moment. You respond to what is happening in the scene instead of showing a reaction.

Six pillars, equal weight

  1. 1

    Imagination

Learn to create a rich inner world that goes beyond your own life experience.

  2. 2

    Given Circumstances

Understand the world of the play and the conditions that shape truthful behaviour.

  3. 3

    Action

Learn to pursue clear, purposeful actions instead of trying to perform emotions.

  4. 4

    Justification

Learn to justify every action so that nothing is random or artificial.

  5. 5

    Characterisation

Learn to bring a character to life through truthful behaviour, movement and the way they interact with the world around them.

  6. 6

    Integration

Trust your preparation and let go, so the scene happens in the moment.

Every concept is introduced individually, then integrated into a complete acting process you can apply with confidence.

How it works

  • 8 live Sundays, 2 hours each, with Veronica.
  • About 2 hours of preparation a week, so plan for about 4 hours in total.
  • Lots of practice in every session: scene work, hands-on exercises and individual feedback.

We teach the craft. We do not promise auditions, agents or work.

You need a camera, a microphone, a quiet room and space to move.

Teaching inspired by the work of Stella Adler.

In their words

She pushed me out of my comfort zone, to be more expressive and open myself up. It surprised me, because I didn't know I had it in me. ... I was very scared and nervous to do this. ... She lowered the bar for people like me. If you're insecure about doing it, I think it's the right place to go.

Seyma K.

The two main things you taught were to investigate your circumstances, and to look for action in what you're doing and don't worry about the emotion. The emotion will just come. I think those two things really helped you build a character and stay in the moment.

Tiana X.

I did a lot of acting when I was younger. It's always interesting to learn the more technical, academic side of it, rather than just getting on stage and bluffing it. ... It's very easy ... to just be on stage and play yourself, and I got maybe too good at doing that. ... We got some feedback from the teacher, and there was a moment where our eyes connected and we realized, we're in the same zone here. It came from the advice she gave us.

Shane K.

There's not really a space for beginners where you can just try. ... It's all about the practice, and with the right teacher you can do it. With the right guidance you can immediately correct your mistakes, and it even helps you gain confidence when your mistakes are pointed out.

Weronika R.

More professional and better tailored than other workshops I've attended, the exercises were focused and adapted to where each person actually was.

Yasemin F.

It's always only just a feeling that you're doing something wrong, but you don't know exactly what's wrong. ... The feeling of freedom on a stage. I didn't feel awkward, and I didn't feel any anxiety to be present in the moment. I knew what I was doing. This was the best thing about our workshop.

Kate K.

We could see how different actors use different actions to tell the same message. That really stayed with me, finding that sweet spot of really being a great actor in a scene.

Mike R.

I had a lot of fun. That was truly what I was hoping for when I stepped into this. You never know what you're going to get, so you're always a little bit nervous. But I really liked the exercises. I thought everything absolutely made sense.

Marcus K.

Before, I used to think you basically just deliver your lines in a kind of way, but there's so much more that goes behind it: the body language, micro expressions, the things around you. It's much broader than I initially thought, and it's very interesting.

Annette van D.

I really enjoyed going at it from action-first, and it is extremely valuable for some actors whose performance it will transform.
